Shut Down the SBOE

The state board of education serves only to politicize education and to allow special interest groups to degrade the quality of text books and the school curriculum.  It should be eliminated as a state agency, returning control of the curriculum to local school boards.

Eliminate Statewide Standardized Testing

TASS or TAKS or STARR or whatever they call it next, using standardized tests on a statewide basis as the primary qualification for graduation takes away control from teachers and local school boards, encourages teachers to teach the test and not the subject and degrades the overall quality of education.

Adopt School Choice

Concerned minority groups and advocates of quality education agree that offering parents more choice in how their kids are educated improves the quality of education and opportunities to excel throughout the system.  By providing a voucher to all students at a value of 70% of per-student education expenditures in their district, students can attend charter schools, private schools or public schools in other districts.  They leave behind money to improve their local schools and create an incentive for schools to improve performance to attract students.
